
The Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) is one of Asia’s largest math competitions. Aimed at Grades 1 to 12 (or Primary 1 to Junior College 2), it goes beyond standard school curricula to foster higher-order thinking, problem-solving, and a love for math.
Duration & Format: 90 minutes; Calculator-free format consisting entirely of multiple-choice and open-ended questions.
Scoring: The paper has 25 questions totaling 85 points (15 bonus points are included to encourage students to tackle tricky problems).
Participation: Open to both school nominations and private candidates.
SASMO is known for having a generous award distribution designed to build confidence, with roughly the top 40% of participants receiving medals.
