AMO – American Mathematics Olympiad

AMO Overview

The American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO) is a prestigious international contest for Grades 2 to 12, jointly organized by the Singapore International Math Contests Centre (SIMCC) and Southern Illinois University (SIU). It aims to inspire students and foster a deeper, more intuitive understanding of math.

Eligibility: Open to all students from Grade 2 to Grade 12.
Format: 90-minute online or onsite exam.
Scoring: Calculators are not permitted. No marks are deducted for incorrect answers.
Framework: Questions are based on the US Common Core Standards but include engaging, non-routine Olympiad challenges.

The 90-minute test is divided into three sections, testing both foundational math and complex problem-solving:

Section A: 15 Multiple-choice questions (3 points each | Total: 45 points)

Section B: 5 Open-ended questions (5 points each | Total: 25 points)

Section C: 5 Open-ended questions (6 points each | Total: 30 points)

Total Score: 100 points

Students who perform well in the AMO can earn international recognition, paving the way for further global STEM competitions. Awards are typically distributed as follows:
