IJCO – International Junior Cybersecurity Olympiad

IJCO Overview

The International Junior Cybersecurity Olympiad (IJCO) is a premier global competition that challenges talented young minds to demonstrate their expertise in cybersecurity. It serves as a major international platform to build the next generation of cybersecurity experts by testing students’ abilities in real-world cyber defense scenarios.

Core Overview:

  • Target Audience: The competition is generally open to secondary and high school students (usually Grades 7 to 13 / Secondary 1 to A-Levels).
  • Competition Format: The finals frequently adopt a Capture-The-Flag (CTF) format, where students solve complex, real-world digital security challenges.
  • Topics Covered: Participants are tested across various rigorous domains, including cryptography, digital forensics, secure systems, and secure networking.
  • Progression: Many participants first compete in their respective National Junior Cybersecurity Olympiads (NJCO). High-scoring students (usually Gold/Silver/Bronze awardees) are then invited to represent their countries in the IJCO global finals.
  • Global Scope: As an international competition, IJCO often takes place during major global youth tech events—such as the STEAM AHEAD Global Finals—gathering elite student teams from regions spanning the Asia-Pacific and beyond.
